Me...?
I'm the player of the 4 string source of low end musical vibrations......
Where would I begin?
I was 13 or 14 when I really started to listen to rock records.
My first epiphany was when I heard Black Dog, Led Zeppelin.
The guitars blew me away. "Jimmy page and that tone!"
It was magic. I knew then... what was next...
I
picked up the guitar and practiced for a few years. At about 18
or 19, a couple of freinds and I formed a band we called Daydream
although, reluctantly, I ended up playing the bass because we
couldnt find anyone else. The name changed once to the Middle
Earth Blues Band and the drummers changed with the seasons.
I
picked back up the 6-string as a main focus and delved heavily
into the blues. Soon a 2nd band was formed a blues band by the
name of The Feel! It was awsome times, unfortunately
the band self-destructed a year later.
Another
year went by and I yearned to play again in a band. I so then
started a concept band called The Rising. The
memory is of a long drawn out process of assembling players and
then actually playing some cool shows. But The Rising then fell
to the loss of a member to the wonderful west coast. Discouraged
once again, I fell into my own work and began to learn the art
of recording.
As
time went by, I found I still needed the interaction with other
players, so arose from the dust Lead Boots –
a totally new project with old and new freinds. But alas members
came and went, the band formed twice in 3 yrs. Then, Kaput!
Which
brings me up to date. I was thinking of just putting aside the
front man pesona and get into a band with momentum and possibility.
Maybe I would just be a lead guitar or rhythm, or maybe just sing...
whatever. Or maybe, say, a bass player? Just as it seems did the
idea pop into my brain, I get a call from Jacque of The
ElkTones, who is a very old friend. She asked if I would
play bass again. I said" maybe." Well we need a bass
player "she said." "Damn right" I said."
Come and audition" she said. "I'll be there!".
I auditioned soon after and I guess they like my playin'...its
4 months later and I'm still in the band. Playing bass again is
the most refreshing thing I have done musically in a long time.
